Our Montessori Method

Our Curriculum

Our excellent education program provides a positive and rewarding experience that far exceeds the traditional concept of education. The goal is not only to give our students a solid academic background, but also to enhance the total learning experience, raising their developmental awareness to extend beyond the classroom.

The Montessori method enables us to focus on the individual needs of the student. Academic and social competition is kept to a minimum. Close, family-like relationships are nurtured in the classroom. Students are taught values as well as academics. Dr. Montessori found that young children learn best in a nurturing environment, filled with developmentally appropriate materials that provide experience that will contribute to the growth of self-motivated, independent learners.

Our core curriculum includes reading, penmanship, mathematics, science, social studies, English grammar and literature, as well as health and safety. Music, art and creative expression are also an integral part of the Montessori method, and students at all age levels participate in Spanish language instruction.

All students, kindergarten level and above, are individually tested yearly with the Stanford Achievement Test to insure proper placement and academic progress.

Our Campus

Our five-acre campus, designed to take your child back to the "country", is a beautiful piece of unspoiled nature - a far different setting than that offered in rushed, over crowded public schools (no metal detectors here!). It presents your child with an ideal setting to learn and grow by blending the enjoyable serenity of a country setting with the safety of our secure environment.

Some features of our campus include the Frontier Village, our own horses, and a swimming pool. Our campus also has plenty of areas for planting in our Farmer's Garden. The lessons of gardening and harvesting are enjoyed by all ages.

Our Goals

"Helping children become ..." is more than a catchy phrase; it is our passion.

Our teachers take an active role in the education of each child, presenting individual lessons based on keen observation of the child's work choces and interests as well as the child's developmental readiness in each area of learning. The teachers also create small group and whole-class lessons and activities to promote social interaction and cooperation and to provide diverse learning opportunities.

By maintaining a supportive, learning-rich environment, we provide the means for advanced academic and intellectual development. Children from Pine Island Montessori graduate our program well prepared and often well ahead of their peers from more traditional classroom settings.

Our Advice

Your child's natural curiosity, capacity for creative expression, self-esteem, and attitude about learning are very important. Early cultivation of these innate characteristics will yield lifelong fruit.
